105 crore scam,Suspended Assam IAS officer arrested from Ajmer

AJMER : Suspended IAS officer of Assam cadre, Sewali Devi Sharma, accused in a Rs 105-crore scam, was arrested in Ajmer along with two others on Monday. An Assam police team reached Ajmer on Sunday night and with the help of local police, traced Sharma’s location to a hotel on Jaipur Road.
The team swooped down on the hotel on Monday morning and arrested Sharma, her contractor son-in-law Ajit Pal Singh and another person, Rahul Amin.
Sewali, a 1992-batch officer and director of State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), was suspended after reports of embezzlement of funds from 2017 to 2020. Earlier, six persons accused in the case, including Assam Congress leader Rajesh Joshi, had been arrested in the case.
All the three accused were taken on transit remand to Assam. Speaking to the media at the local court, Assam special team inspector Pritam Sekiya said that Ajit and Rahul were contractors. She and other accused had transferred state government funds into five bank accounts without a work order from the SCERT.
