According to CNN, the disease, known as “vein of Galen malformation,” causes problems in the veins that carry blood from the brain to the heart.
According to information, the baby growing in the womb was suffering from a disease called “Venus of Galen malformation”. This problem occurs when the arteries that carry blood from the brain to the heart are not properly developed. It causes many health problems. Babies suffering from the disease are faced with two major problems after birth. One is brain damage and the second is immediate heart failure. Giving more information about this disease, Boston Children’s Hospital radiologist and VOGM specialist Dr. Darren Orback said, “After the baby is born, the treatment is done using a catheter.” Small coils are used to slow down the blood flow. But this treatment is often delayed. Despite many advances in medical science, 50 to 60 percent of children suffer from this disease. Even so, about 40 percent of children suffering from this disease die. And most of the children who are alive are in critical condition. They face serious neurological and other problems.
The development of this baby growing in the womb was normal. But during the ultrasound, the doctors found out that the baby was suffering from this disease. However, this rare surgery (Brain surgery) has been done at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
At the time of operation, the fetus was 34 weeks. After this the baby was delivered safely. Now both the mother and the baby seem to be safe.
