BHUBANESWAR: The Centre has declared the Kapileswar Temple here as an ancient monument of national importance and has sought any objection or suggestion to the declaration. The ministry of culture issued the gazette notification on May 6.
Any objection or suggestion to the declaration of the said ancient monument to be of national importance may be made within a period of two months of the issue of notification to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI),” the notification said.
Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi had met Union culture and tourism minister G Kishan Reddy and requested him to bring the ancient shiva shrine under the protection and custody of the ASI for better preservation of the monument.
The ministry of culture decided to declare Kapileswar Temple as monument of national importance. “On the request of the temple priests, I visited the temple sometimes back and held discussion with the residents. I am grateful to the minister G Kishan Reddy and ASI for acting promptly. Better preservation, better upkeep. Temple priests and residents are happy,” Sarangi said in a series of tweets she posted along with the notification.
