Swiggy, Zomato to join hands with ONDC

BENGALURU: Government-developed platform ONDC is offering low-cost food items. This has put pressure on Swigo and Zomato. However, according to experts who monitor the food delivery market, these two private companies will not take any major steps. They will not reduce the price of their food. Rather, they will grow hand in hand with ONDC.
ONDC does not have its own app. It is managed through third party apps like Paytm. It is still in the early stages. It is not yet clear on what basis it is offering discounts on food, what is the delivery format and how many delivery staff are there. Swiggy has 3 lakh and Zomato has more than 330 thousand delivery staff. How successful ONDC will be against the likes of Swiggy and Zomato remains to be seen. That depends on many factors, experts said. In the past, the food delivery business of many large companies could not survive in the face of Swiggy and Zomato. Ola closed its Ola Cafe in 2016. The company acquired Foodpanda in 2017, but discontinued its operations a few days later. In 2020, Uber sold its Uber Eats business to Zomato. In 2022, Amazon closed its Amazon Foods division.
